When you think of the New Zealand accent, what comes to mind? Some people may say we sound montone (flat) or that we rise pitch at the end of the sentence – what else do you think we do?

What makes the New Zealand Accent unique?

Verb Forms are sometimes pronounced as two syllables

Eg grow-en = grown

    Throw-en = thrown

    Know-en = known

Ellision:  the shortening of words by dropping letters or sounds

Eg choclate = chocolate

     Usuly = usually

     Iz  = his

     Runnin = running

     Gidday = good day

Unusual pronunciation of specific words:

Eg  amatcha = amateur

      Pickcha  = picture
