This activity requires a mixture of classroom and homework. Using the Information Literacy template plan your research, record information, log the research process, then present information. You will be assessed on how well you:

·         plan the research, collect, select, record relevant information ie record the research process using the Information Literacy model.

·         organise and present deep quality information in a meaningful and relevant form.

Task 1: Completing a research plan

a)      Brainstorm possible Fair Trade topics you are interested in researching.

      Choose topics where resources are accessible and which will allow you to present your own 

      conclusions on the information you find. Consider which topic you would like to find out

      more about. It should be a topic which interests you and you can find plenty of information

Some suggestions for areas to research could include:

 

      Fair Trade Chocolate                 Life for Cocoa farmers in Ghana or Costa Rica

 

    Oxfam                        Trade Aid          Fair Trade in Thailand         Adidas 

 

b)  To focus your topic, you will decide on a key question you want your research to answer.

      Develop a key question which will allow you to present information as well as take part in a

     debate.  Brainstorm key words associated with the question as they help you locate

     information.  

Task 2: Gathering information and recording the process

a)      You will gather information relevant to your key question from a range of sources such as websites, magazines, newspapers and books. You must record these in a bibliography.

b)      As you gather information, you will complete a research log based on the Information Literacy model to record the steps you take and record the details of your source for your bibliography.

 

Task 3: Organising and presenting the information

a)     Finally you will use your information to present it in a relevant and quality form.

b)    Present your research log in a clear file to show that you completed all stages of the process.
